CIAO: Columbia International Affairs Online Contains full-text documents related to theory and research in international affairs. (CQ Global Researcher will be on the right-hand side of the page) Comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in U.S. and world news from Congressional Quarterly Provides the full text of many news, business, legal, medical, and reference publications, including national and regional newspapers, wire services, and broadcast transcripts. Indexes publications about public policy and social issues from 120 countries. Provides full-text articles from the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, as well as 300 other newspapers. Internet ResourcesGeneral Information and Human Rights Organizations American Refugee Committee The American Refugee Committee is an "international nonprofit, nonsectarian organization that has provided humanitarian assistance and training to millions of beneficiaries over the last 27 years. ARC works with refugee communities in 10 countries around the world, helping people regain control of their lives." ARC provides shelter, clean water and sanitation, health care, skills training, microcredit education, and protection. See information on their programs in Darfur and Rwanda. Amnesty International Amnesty International (AI) is a "worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. AI's mission is to "undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights." Committee on Conscience, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum http://www.ushmm.org/conscience/ The Committee on Conscience mandate is to "alert the national conscience, influence policy makers, and stimulate worldwide action to confront and work to halt acts of genocide or related crimes against humanity." See, in particular, their coverage of Sudan/Darfur and Rwanda. Human Rights First http://www.humanrightsfirst.org/ Human Rights First is a nonpartisan, non-profit international human rights organization. Its mission is to "protect people at risk: refugees who flee persecution, victims of crimes against humanity or other mass human rights violations, victims of discrimination, those whose rights are eroded in the name of national security, and human rights advocates who are targeted for defending the rights of others." See their coverage of Darfur. Human Rights Watch Human Rights Watch is an independent, nongovernmental organization dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world. See their Regions pages, particularly their sections on Sudan and Rwanda. International Rescue Committee The International Rescue Committee serves refugees and communities victimized by oppression or violent conflict worldwide. Founded in 1933, the IRC is "committed to freedom, human dignity, and self-reliance. This commitment is expressed in emergency relief, protection of human rights, post-conflict development, resettlement assistance, and advocacy."
