Ade Bethune Collection Graduate Assistant

Position Description

The Ade Bethune Collection, housed with the Archives in the lower level of the St. Paul campus library, represents the life work of a world-renowned liturgical artist, writer, and social activist. The collection consists of correspondence, original manuscripts of books, articles and lectures; original and published writings; over 2,000 drawings; memorabilia, sketchbooks, and photographs; approximately 1,500 architectural drawings; and artworks of wood, metal, paint, stained glass and clay. The primary responsibilities of the graduate assistant will be processing materials in the Ade Bethune Collection.  This involves:

  • identifying all pertinent materials from the collection
  • determining an organizational scheme for the materials and arranging and re-housing them in archival containers according to that scheme
  • entering the materials into a database using Archivists' Toolkit
  • creating a finding aid, possibly in EAD format

Additional duties during the semester may include:

  • assisting researchers using the collection
  • importing materials into the College's Digital Collections (http://contentdm.stkate.edu) and creating metadata for them
  • creating displays or other promotions for the collection

This position may be extended to include both the fall and spring semesters.

In addition to the above requirements for all positions, special consideration will be given to applicants with coursework in archival administration or who have previous experience in an archives or special collection.

Applicants must be available to work during regular business hours (9am - 5pm).  Evening or weekend hours are not possible.
