Electronic Document Delivery
(EDD)
Some interlibrary loan (ILL) journal articles can now be delivered electronically
via the Web. Your articles are delivered to your desktop, where you can
view and print at your convenience. At this time, not all articles
are available for electronic delivery, and not all libraries are
sending us articles this way.
To receive electronic delivery of articles:
Simply type EDD followed by your St. Kate's Email address
in the Notes/Comments field or type your St. Kate's Email
in the Pickup/Delivery field of the article
request form. You will be notified through your St. Kate's email
account on how to obtain the electronic document. Note: Sorry,
we cannot send notices to off-campus email accounts.
To receive articles via EDD, you must have:
· An internet connection
· A St. Kate's email account
· A web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape)
· Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher
· A printer (if you want to print a copy of your article)
How will I be notified about electronic delivery?
When an article is delivered via EDD, an email notice will be sent
to your St. Kate's email account. This email gives you a link to a Website
and a password to access the article. Please check your email
regularly for notification that your article is available for viewing.
The article will be available for 5 viewings or 7 days only
from the time the email is sent to you.
NOTE: if your experience problems downloading your article(s),
please notify the ILL office (651-690-6655) BEFORE you
have reached these limits.
Can my home computer handle the file size?
Some electronic document files are very large and are best viewed from
an on-campus computer, especially if you do not have a fast Internet
connection at home. Download time will vary depending on the speed of
your Internet connection.
Approximate* download times using a 56k modem:
Article = 3 pages, approximately 5 minutes
Article = 10 pages, approximately 15 minutes
Article = 50 pages, approximately 30 minutes
*File sizes are dependent on the scanning resolution the sending institution
uses, as well as the content itself. Articles with graphics and pictures
tend to create larger files when compared to another article of the
same length that is mainly text.
What if I have trouble getting my document to open?
Try the EDD Troubleshooting
Guide to solve some basic electronic document delivery problems.
