For Students: Accessing items on course reserve
Your instructor may have placed items that you need to read or view on reserve in the Library. These materials may include journal articles, books chapters, whole books, or videos/DVDs. Come to the circulation desk at the Library -- you'll need to know the course number and the title of the item that you need.
Be sure to bring your college ID to check out reserve items!
Most reserve items can be checked out for 2-3 hours, although some may be kept for 24 hours, 48 hours, or as long as a week (your instructor specifies the checkout period). Only one reserve item can be checked out at a time. Please note that all reserve items are restricted to use within the Library.
Electronic reserves
Articles or book chapters have been scanned so that they are available electronically whether you are on or off campus. Electronic reserves must be viewed with Adobe Acrobat software.
To access electronic reserves
- Connect to CLICnet, the Library's online catalog.
- At the main CLICnet search screen, look for Course Reserves.
- Select Professor or Course to search.
- For Professor, type your instructor's last name followed by first name, for example: harlowe, brooke
- For Course, type the course number, for example: POSC 225 (or type simply POSC to see all the courses options in Political Science).
- Once you locate your course, you will see a list of reserve materials available for that course. Electronic Reserves items are indicated by: ELECTRONIC COPY AVAILABLE under Format. Click on the title of the item that you want.
- At the next screen, type your name (first name, last name) and the 14-digit number from the back of your St. Kate's ID. (Students can access their library barcode number from the Student Kiosk.)
- Click on Submit. Be patient! You may have to wait several minutes while the file downloads.
- Note that some long articles have been divided into smaller sections, e.g., Part I, Part II. Make certain that you have accessed the entire article.
Please note:
The files may be very large and take longer to open from off campus. When printing articles, you may find it helpful to print only a few pages at a time.
