Mission Statement and Policies
St. Catherine University Libraries Mission Statement
The St. Catherine Libraries, Media Services and Archives exist to support the vision and mission of St. Catherine University. Through its services, personnel, facilities, collections and technology, the Libraries, Media Services and Archives support and enrich the curricula, programs, and activities of the College.
We strive to become the Learner’s Library offering a vibrant environment where students, faculty and staff interact with each other and with the information resources and knowledge networks now linking the world.
How we achieve our mission
- We focus on the learning process and emphasize a discovery-based environment, where students will not just be given answers, but will learn for themselves how to research effectively.
- We offer library users materials and databases relevant to their needs, while maintaining an emphasis on the liberal arts.
- We acquire resources to support the student’s attainment of discipline-based competence, provide strong resources in ethics and social justice, and celebrate diversity and global perspectives.
- Our collections connect to the curriculum, but also go beyond it to support lifelong learning.
- We support creative and critical thinking skills by providing services and personnel to mentor students in how to evaluate information and meet their academic research needs.
- The library spaces provide work and study areas for a variety of learning styles: collaborative and individual, interactive and quiet.
- These spaces are technologically rich and allow mastery of advanced technologies appropriate to the digital age.
- Working together and with faculty, skilled specialists provide guidance in the use of these technologies.
- We assess and improve our services, personnel, facilities, and resources on an ongoing basis.
