Connecting to library databases from off campus

Due to licensing restrictions, remote access to many of our research databases, e-journals, and e-books is limited to current students, staff, and faculty of St. Catherine University. Off-campus access to most of these resources is made possible by our EZproxy server.

How do I connect to library databases from off campus?

Simply select the link to connect to the database you wish to search, and login. There are two login options:

  1. KateWay login -- Most users will login via KateWay. If you have questions about your username and primary password, consult information about passwords or contact the Help Desk to verify your account information.
  2. Alternate login -- These are specially created logins for people who are affiliated with St. Kate's but who do not have KateWay logins. See additional information below.

Explain how to use my KateWay login for off-campus access.

  • If you are already logged in to KateWay and then select a database from the Library's website, you will see our login screen. Select the "Use my KateWay login!" button to go directly to the database without typing a username and password.
  • If you aren't yet logged in to KateWay, you'll see the same login screen. Select the "Use my KateWay login!" button, login to KateWay, and then you'll connect to the database.

I'm affiliated with St. Kate's, but I don't have a KateWay login. What should I do?

If you think you should have a KateWay login and you wish to verify your account information, please contact the Computing Services Help Desk.

In special cases, logins using library barcodes can be created as necessary, particularly for:

  • Students in the joint St. Kate's/UST graduate program in Social Work
  • ACTC students enrolled in courses at St. Kate's
  • Clinical site faculty

If you fit into one of these categories, you can request a barcode login using our problem report form. ACTC students should indicate what St. Kate's class they are taking, and the instructor.

I'm having trouble with off-campus access. What should I do?

If you cannot login with your KateWay username and password, please contact the Computing Services Help Desk to verify your account information.

If you are able to login, but are experiencing a problem with a particular library database, you can:

Your website says "password required" for the database I want to access. What does that mean?

Some database providers require a special username/password login for their databases, and these aren't handled in quite the same way. Here's how to access these databases:

  1. Select the link to connect to the database.
  2. You will be prompted to login as usual.
  3. A page showing the special username and password for the database will be displayed. Make a note of this information.
  4. Finally, select the "Connect to" link to connect to the database. Once you connect, login with the special username and password for the database.

There is an exception to this for full-text articles in a few e-journals: To make it a little easier to link to articles in e-journals that require special logins, we've provided two links -- one that goes directly to the e-journal, and a second link to a page showing the special username and password. Here's what to do:

  1. When you see a "CLICK HERE FOR LOGIN INFO" link, select it.
  2. You will be prompted to login as usual.
  3. A page showing the special username and password for the e-journal will be displayed. Make a note of this information (or switch to that window as needed).
  4. Go back to the window containing the link to the full-text article or e-journal and select it.
  5. Once you've connected to the e-journal, login with the special username and password to see the article.
