Connecting to Library Databases from Off Campus

Due to licensing restrictions, remote access to many of our research databases, e-journals, and e-books is limited to current students, staff, and faculty of the College of St. Catherine. Off-campus access to most of these resources is made possible by our EZproxy server.

How do I connect to library databases from off campus?

Simply select the link to connect to the database you wish to search, and login. Most of our off-campus access is handled by our EZproxy server. Please note that we have changed the requirements for logging in to EZproxy. There are now three options:

  1. KateWay login -- Have questions about your username and password for KateWay? Contact the Help Desk to verify your account information, or select "What's my username and password?" on the KateWay login screen.
  2. CSC network login -- This is the username and password that you type when you login to a computer on campus. See information about network logins from the Computing Services Help Desk.
  3. Alternate login -- These are specially created logins for people who are affiliated with the college but who do not have network or KateWay logins. See additional information below.

Why did you change the login method? Using my library barcode was so easy!

We needed to make the change in order to comply with database license agreements, improve security, and facilitate connections between KateWay and EZproxy.

Explain how to use my KateWay login for off-campus access.

  • If you are already logged in to KateWay and you select a database from the Library's tab, you will see our off-campus login screen. Select the "Use my KateWay login!" button to go straight to the database without typing a username and password.
  • If you aren't yet logged in to KateWay, you'll see the same off-campus login screen. Select the "Use my KateWay login!" button, login to KateWay, and then you'll connect to the database. You don't need your CSC network login at all if you know your KateWay login.

I'm affiliated with the College, but I don't have a network or KateWay login. What should I do?

If you think you should have a CSC network or KateWay login and you wish to verify your account information, please contact the Computing Services Help Desk.

In special cases, logins using library barcodes can be created as necessary, particularly for:

  • Students in the joint CSC/UST graduate program in Social Work
  • ACTC students enrolled in courses at CSC
  • Clinical site faculty

If you fit into one of these categories, you can request a barcode login using our problem report form. ACTC students should indicate what CSC class they are taking, and the instructor.

I'm having trouble with off-campus access. What should I do?

If you cannot login with your CSC network or KateWay username and password, please contact the Computing Services Help Desk to verify your account information.

If you can login, but are experiencing a problem with a particular library database, you can:

Your website says "password required" for the database I want to access. What does that mean?

Some database providers require a special passworded login for their databases, and these aren't handled by our EZproxy server. Here's how to access these databases:

  • Select the link to connect to the database.
  • Login as if you were going to access your Lotus Notes e-mail over the web.
  • You will then be shown the username and password for the database. Make a note of this information.
  • Finally, select the "Connect to" link to connect to the database.

If our other off-campus options aren't working for you, there are alternative passworded logins for some databases. These should be used as a last resort only.
