Tips for using ONEsearch

About ONEsearch

Have you ever wanted to search many library databases at once to determine which one has the most information on a topic? Now you can with ONEsearch. Known as a federated search engine, ONEsearch provides a single search interface for more than 60 of the Library's databases, including CLICnet. You can do a keyword search of all databases in a particular subject category, or pick and choose your own group of databases to search.

Tips for searching

  • Keep searches simple: Translate important concepts into one or two search words or short phrases. Enclose phrases in quotation marks.
  • Search a few databases: Hit the button for Search by Database and select no more than 3 or 4 databases where you suspect you'll get the best results.
  • View retrieved results by database: Click on the results number to view a particular resource's results. You can easily see which databases are most fruitful for further searching on the topic.
  • Save citations to RefWorks: It's easy to export citations from ONEsearch into the RefWorks citation manager. Just mark the records you want, and then select Save/Export. The Find Full Text link will also go into RefWorks with the citations.
  • For more in-depth research, link directly to a database. ONEsearch is a good way to do a broad, general search. However, for more search features, and more focused results, your best bet is to link directly to a database to conduct your search.
  • Not all of our research databases are included in ONEsearch. You must link directly to some databases, such as Food Science & Technology Abstracts.
