Special Passwords for Databases Special Database Passwords--College of St. Catherine Libraries

In most cases, off-campus access to library databases requires using EZproxy. It's easy to login to EZproxy--you only have to type in your library barcode number. (Please note: Starting on May 22, 2007, most people will login to EZproxy using their CSC network login instead of barcode number. See Connecting to Library Databases from Off Campus for more information.) However, if for some reason you are not able to get EZproxy to work, you might be able to connect to a particular database using a special password for that database. This should be used only as a last resort, since it will be impossible for you to access all of our content in this way.

How to obtain special passwords for library databases:

  1. Select a database from the list below.
  2. Login as if you were going to check your Lotus Notes e-mail over the web.
  3. You will then be shown the password for the database. Make a note of the password and any other login instructions.
  4. Select the "Connect to" link to go to the database.

Databases which can be accessed by special password:

Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost)
Alt-HealthWatch
Business Source Premier (EBSCOhost)
Children's Literature Comprehensive Database
Education Journals via ProQuest
FirstSearch
Health Source (EBSCOhost)
InfoTrac
Library Literature
MasterFILE Premier (EBSCOhost)
New York Times via ProQuest
OTSearch
ProQuest Newspapers
Regional Business News (EBSCOhost)

Many of these databases include links to full text in other services. This full text might not be accessible to you from off campus when you access these databases using the special passwords. Whenever possible, connect to these databases using EZproxy (see our Find Articles in Databases page).
