Many of the journal databases to which the Library subscribes will provide journal articles on environmental justice topics. Depending on your issue, you will use different ones. Here are some to consider -- please ask a librarian or consult the list of database by subject for other options.

This advisory committee provides independent advice, consultation, and recommendations to the Administrator of EPA on matters related to environmental justice.  The page links to NEJAC reports on fish consumption, permitting process, community-based health resources, and others.

National Low Income Housing Coalition

The Coalition issues The NIMBY Report:  On the Continuing Struggle for Inclusive Communities.  Semiannual reports and monthly newsletters cover topics like affordable housing and siting group homes.

Reference Books

Reference books are good places to start to find overviews, background information, and definitions. These books are located in the St. Paul Library's Reference collection:

Ethics Generally

Encyclopedia of Ethics

Reference BJ 63 .F45 (1992)

Covers philosophical ethics as practiced among English-speaking academics, but includes topics from other philosophical traditions, applied ethics, history of ethics and other approaches.  Offers good basic summaries of many ethical theories an applied practices, plus good coverage of the vocabulary used by ethicists.

Encyclopedia of Applied Ethics

Reference BJ 63 .A66 (1998)

Long articles on key ethical issues as they are applied to the contemporary world.  Gives overviews of the opposing arguments on each issue.  Each article has a bibliography.

Encyclopedia of Bioethics

Reference QH 332 .E52 (2004)

Long articles on bioethical issues of a medical, environmental, psychological, sociological and/or biological nature.  Provides balanced treatment, and the article authors are highly regarded.  Useful bibliographies.
