Use of Libraries by Alumae

General Use

Alumnae are welcome to use the books, magazines and reference resources of the St. Catherine University Libraries, although access to the services and resources may be limited.  Please keep in mind that Library collections reflect the University's curriculum, and as such may not contain materials they would expect to find in a public library.

Book Checkout

Alumnae will be issued a book Borrower card, free of charge, upon presentation of a valid driver's license, completion of an application and verification of alumnae status. Apply at the Circulation Desk. Alumnae cards are valid for one year from the date of issue and must be renewed annually.

The following conditions apply to book borrowing:

  • Privileges apply to the libraries on both St. Kate's campuses
  • Periodicals do not circulate
  • Alumnae/i may not place holds on the CLICnet system
  • The lost book fee is $50.00 per item
  • Alumnae cards are not valid at other CLIC libraries
  • The book check-out period is six weeks

Reference Service

Reference Librarians will assist alumnae with their questions and research needs.  However, as our first priorities are the needs of current students, lengthy searches or consultations with alumnae may not be possible.

Electronic Resources

Electronic resources that are not restricted by licensing agreement may be used by alumnae on the premises; database licenses do not allow us to extend off-campus, remote access. Use of restricted databases (including FirstSearch) is not permitted.

Use of computer workstations and printing

Priority for use of computer workstations is given to St. Kate's students, staff, faculty, CSJ and Seniors auditing our classes. Three “guest” computers in the Library Reference Room may be used by alumnae and visitors to the St. Paul campus for research for one hour increments. These computers will log out automatically after one hour.

The Libraries' Internet Use Policy also applies to alumnae.

Printing: Computer guest log ins do not allow printing privileges. You may email your work to your home computer or save to a flash drive. A printing card may be purchased from the Bookstore ($5.00 for 50 copies).

Interlibrary loan and document delivery

ILL services are not extended to alumnae or Seniors auditing classes.  We recommend that you contact your public library for these services.
