Fidel Castro and Cuba

source: www.nytimes.com

Fidel Castro, who led the 1959 Cuban Revolution against then-president Fulgencio Batista, has stepped down as president of Cuba after 49 years.  His brother Raul was named the new president by Cuba's National Assembly.  Raul Castro has been leading the country since July 2006 due to Fidel Castro's poor health.
