Countries in the News: Kenya
Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki was announced as the winner, by a narrow margin, of the presidential election held on December 27, 2007. However, the opposition party responded with accusations of vote rigging.
The disputed election result has led to violence between opposing political parties and ethnic groups. It is estimated over 800 have been killed and thousands more have fled their homes. |
