Our 2017 Favorites in Books, Movies, TV & Music

At the end of the year we like to reflect on things that brought us joy this year, so here are some of our favorite things from 2017.

Our library staff and student workers read from a wide variety of genres, so if you're looking for a book to read over break, try some of our favorites this year like Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, Him, Me, and Muhammad Ali by Randa Jarrar, Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson, and so many more. Check out our Pinterest board for all of them:

Our library staff and student workers agreed upon their favorite movies of the year: Get Out, The Big Sick, and Wonder Woman. They were each mentioned by five or more people, so we staff and students think alike. Some staff members also enjoyed movies they finally got around to watching, like The Shawshank Redemption and The Way Back, but check out some of the current movies we really enjoyed this year:

Library staff and student workers also agreed upon their favorite TV shows this year: Stranger Things and The Good Place. Stranger Things was mentioned by almost everyone and The Good Place was highlighted multiple times. There were other shows we liked this year, too, check them all out:

As for music, we're all over the board with what we like. No one listed the same song, so here's a list of what we were all digging this year:

  • The Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran
  • Worship Me by Lizzo
  • May I Have This Dance by Francis & the Lights (featuring Chance the Rapper)
  • Surrender by Walk the Moon
  • Way Down We Go by Kaleo
  • Perfect by Ed Sheeran
  • No Promises by Cheat Codes (featuring Demi Lovato
  • Praying by Kesha
  • 1-800-273-8255 by Logic (featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid)
  • Drift by Benji Lewis
  • How's Your Mind by Knox Hamilton
  • Drew Barrymore by SZA
  • I Dare You by The xx
  • Million Reasons by Lady Gaga
  • Blackness of the Night by Yusuf/Cat Stevens

And one student worker said that every song on Taylor Swift's new album, Reputation, was their favorite.
