This collection documents the activities of the Art Committee of the Minnesota Metro Branch of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Formed in response to the Beijing Platform for Action resulting from the United Nations 4th World Conference on Women held in Beijing China in 1995, the Arts Committee aims to raise public awareness of global and local issues of concern to women. The artists, activists, and scholars on the committee believe in the power of the arts to effect social change and illuminate public policy.
The majority of materials in the collection are from the Arts Committee's April 2015 retrospective exhibition, "Women Creating Art for Peace & Gender Justice." The exhibition featured projects created over a 20-year span. Other items of interest include a video about the Arts Committee created by Beverly Crosby, and materials documenting attendance of local WILPF members at the conference in Beijing.
The collection was given to the St. Catherine Archives and Special Collections by the Arts Committee in June 2015.
